“I saw you. And I saw me, too.”
Hi, thank you so much for taking the time to check out my show.
I can’t believe I’m finally sharing it with everyone beyond the crowd who was there that night on May 31, 2023. I set out to share the story of the last several years of my life since I last performed on a stage, and ended up staring into a mirror of community that has shaped me in every way.
One of the sweetest pieces of feedback I received was from a childhood friend who said, “I saw you, and I saw me, too.“ I think that’s all I wanted from making this piece. To feel seen and to create a room where others could feel seen.
In an effort to live in the incredibly beautiful grey area between one-person show, cabaret, living photo album and a long story told over a bottle of good meal, "Everything I Know" is a devised collection of songs, stories, and shenanigans inspired by memories, photographs, and poems jotted down in notebooks that live in my home.
It's incredibly personal. And after what has been the wildest past 6 years of my life living as a photographer, actor, filmmaker, singer, dancer, friend, girlfriend, woman, not a woman, witch, director, daughter, partner, painter, caretaker, home maker, and story-teller it was time for me to get back on stage and reintroduce myself, and I chose to use a little bit of everything I know to do it.
Hello, my name is Mia (they/them/she/her) and I would love to invite you to imagine while you’re watching this on a laptop or television that we are actually sitting in my living room, sharing a meal and a drink and listening to a story. My story specifically, and how the folks in my life have shaped me.
My story has significantly continued and taken unexpected paths since Spring of 2023 when I wrote this. I look forward to making more performance art pieces, but for right now,
I hope you enjoy this radical celebration of self and community.
Much love,
Mia
Runtime: 93 minutes, no intermission.
I’d recommend pairing this show with a nice plate of food, some wine,
or my favorite: a rolled joint and a cozy blanket.
